Receipts differ from shelf price on 18% of Vomar offers

Mystery shoppers for the Consumentenbond, the Dutch consumers' association, again found wrong prices at supermarkets, with Vomar, Jumbo and DekaMarkt worst.

Mystery shoppers working for the Consumentenbond found that the receipt price did not match the paper price tag or sign for 18% of offers checked at Vomar, 14% at Jumbo and 11% at DekaMarkt.

For the check, the shoppers visited five branches of each of eleven national and regional supermarket chains. They checked 25 offers with a paper price tag or sign against the receipt.

The Consumentenbond has checked since 2020 whether supermarket receipts are correct. Earlier, it reached agreements with supermarkets to end the errors.

The other chains had error rates of 6% to 9%. Albert Heijn and Lidl, which almost exclusively use electronic price tags, had almost no errors.

Jumbo has removed error-prone signs in its fruit and vegetable departments. At the Consumentenbond's request, it is also bringing back its correct-price guarantee: customers get the product free if the shelf price differs from the receipt. Vomar immediately removed its paper offer signs above refrigerators and fresh-food departments.

Albert Heijn, DekaMarkt, Hoogvliet, Nettorama and Vomar also have such a guarantee, though not all DekaMarkt branches offer it. ALDI, Dirk, Lidl and Plus will soon introduce one. Poiesz will not.
