Prosecutors: Pride 2025 arsons in Amsterdam were planned and had a terrorist motive
Prosecutors say a 27-year-old suspect planned both fires at Amsterdam Centraal during Pride last year and acted with a terrorist motive, and the court has kept him in custody for three more months.
The Openbaar Ministerie (OM), the Public Prosecution Service, says the two fires during Pride Amsterdam last year were part of a premeditated plan by the 27-year-old suspect, Anes A. One fire was started in a train and the other in a temporary changing room at Amsterdam Centraal station. The OM says there was a terrorist motive.
Anes A. allegedly posted references to Islamic State (IS) websites on Instagram shortly before the fires. According to the OM, the posts glorified IS ideology.
The district court has ruled that Anes A. stays in custody for the next three months.
