A 20-year-old man arrested on 5 October remains in custody on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack, and police found a sword, two knives and an air pistol in his home.
A 20-year-old man from Capelle aan den IJssel is suspected of preparing a terrorist attack, the Public Prosecution Service (Openbaar Ministerie) said. Police received a tip on 5 October about a man who had said he wanted to carry out an attack with "as many victims as possible".
He was arrested the same day and his home was searched. Officers seized digital devices for further investigation. They also found a sword, two knives and an air pistol, which are being examined further.
The examining magistrate (rechter-commissaris) has ruled that the man stays in custody for another fourteen days.

rechter-commissaris
The examining magistrate is a judge at a Dutch district court (rechtbank) who supervises the criminal investigation before a case goes to trial. The rechter-commissaris rules on coercive measures during the investigation, such as extending pre-trial custody (voorlopige hechtenis) and authorising certain investigative powers like wiretaps. Their role is to protect the suspect's rights while the police and public prosecutor (Openbaar Ministerie) build the case.
