Resolved Accident near Driebergen brings A12 to standstill
Drivers towards Arnhem faced a delay of at least an hour on Thursday evening, while a points failure cut trains between Amsterdam and Utrecht all day.
An accident just before Driebergen brought the A12 to a standstill on Thursday 22 October. Rijkswaterstaat told drivers towards Arnhem to expect a delay of at least an hour in the evening rush hour. The jam had cleared by around 18:45.
Rijkswaterstaat had expected heavy jams in the province of Utrecht, among other areas, during the evening rush hour on both 22 and 23 October. Rain and the end of the autumn holiday were behind the expected crowds.
Rail travellers were also affected. NS said fewer trains ran between Amsterdam and Utrecht all day because of a points failure (wisselstoring).
NS also reported fewer trains between Amersfoort and Barneveld on the same day.

Rijkswaterstaat
Rijkswaterstaat is the executive agency of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management that manages the national road network, including the motorways. It also manages the main waterways, dams, locks and flood defences. It is the body that announces roadworks, closures and expected delays on national motorways, so its traffic messages are the official source for jams on routes like the A12.
