Prime Minister Jetten and partner expect first child in 2027
Rob Jetten and Nicolás Keenan announced on Instagram that a surrogate mother is carrying their baby, due in spring 2027, and Jetten's party says he will take a few days' leave around the birth.
Prime Minister Rob Jetten (39) and his partner Nicolás Keenan (29) announced on Instagram on Monday that they expect their first child in 2027. A surrogate mother is carrying the baby, which is due in spring 2027.
The post, written in Dutch, Spanish and English, reads: "There is a very special someone on the way. See you in 2027, little one." The couple thanked their egg donor, surrogate Lisa and their families: "Without you all this would not have been possible."
Jetten's party, D66, stressed that this is not commercial surrogacy. It said the surrogate and the egg donor are acquaintances of the couple, and that the surrogate is not paid. Paid surrogacy is not allowed in the Netherlands, but an expense allowance may be paid.
On the party's website Jetten said: "The surrogate and the baby are doing well, which is of course the most important thing for now." He asked people to respect the privacy of those involved. Lisa said surrogacy feels like "a very special way" to help make her dear friends' dream come true.
Around the birth Jetten will take "a few days" of leave and then resume work, D66 said. The party also said Keenan has made "good arrangements" with his hockey club and the Argentine national team on combining fatherhood with top-level sport.
Jetten has been prime minister since 23 February this year. He and Keenan, who is from Argentina and plays hockey for HC Klein Zwitserland in The Hague, have been engaged since 2024.
