Wrong-way driver killed in A2 crash near Breukelen
A wrong-way driver died on Saturday on the A2 between Utrecht and Amsterdam in a collision with two other cars, and police have dashcam footage and dozens of tips from witnesses.
A wrong-way driver (spookrijder) was killed on Saturday on the A2 motorway between Utrecht and Amsterdam, near Breukelen. The crash happened at about 12.00, when the driver's car collided with two other cars. One of the other drivers was injured.
Dozens of witnesses have contacted the police, and officers have since received dashcam footage.
The investigation is continuing, a police spokesperson said.
It is not the first serious crash on this stretch of the A2. In October 2019, a driver crossed over to the other carriageway and hit another car head-on, probably because he had become unwell. Three people died: the driver and a couple in the other car.
