Resolved Power failure halts trains to and from Schiphol

A faulty part in a high-voltage cabinet near Amsterdam stopped trains between Amsterdam-Zuid, Schiphol and Hoofddorp on Saturday afternoon, making it busy at the airport.

A power failure stopped trains between Amsterdam-Zuid, Schiphol and Hoofddorp on Saturday afternoon, and trains towards Utrecht, Dordrecht and Venlo, among other destinations, were cancelled, the railway company NS said. It called the situation at the airport messy.

The failure was in a high-voltage cabinet near Amsterdam Riekerpolder, just before the line branches towards Amsterdam Lelylaan and Amsterdam-Zuid, rail infrastructure manager ProRail said. “We have replaced a faulty part, which has fixed the failure,” ProRail said. The cause of the defect is being investigated.

NS expected trains to run normally again from around 17:00. The timetable is being restarted, but ProRail warned that delays could last for some time.

Elsewhere on the network, fewer trains are running between The Hague, Leiden and Rotterdam and between Rotterdam and Dordrecht because of a switch failure. No trains are running between Rotterdam and Delft after arson at a railway bridge in Delfshaven on Saturday morning.
