IMF: Dutch economy likely to grow faster than thought this year

The International Monetary Fund now forecasts Dutch growth of 1.5% this year and has also raised its outlook for Germany, the Netherlands' large neighbour.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says the Dutch economy is likely to grow considerably faster this year than previously thought. In its new projections the fund puts Dutch growth at 1.5% in 2026 and 1.3% in 2027, and it has also raised its forecast for Germany.

For the world economy as a whole, the IMF forecasts growth of 3.1% this year and 3.4% next year. IMF chief economist Silvana Tenreyro said the world economy is showing resilience after the major disruption of energy markets caused by the outbreak of the war against Iran earlier this year.

Higher energy prices push global inflation up, the IMF forecasts, from 4.1% last year to 4.7% this year.
