The fire is now out and no one was injured.

The fire raged in a sorting machine at the company, the safety region said. Many emergency services were sent to the site.

The fire service scaled up its response to "major fire", its code for a very large fire. Middelkampseweg, the road outside the company, was closed to all traffic to give the emergency services room to work.

While the incident was under way, the safety region asked the public to give the emergency services as much space as possible. It said a spokesperson was on the way to the scene.

The fire brigade is still at the scene for now. Crews are carrying out final checks and clearing up, the safety region said.

The fire broke out on Saturday afternoon at the company on the Middelkampseweg in Gameren. It drew many onlookers.

The safety region (veiligheidsregio) said it would publish further updates on its website.
