Ongoing Fire engulfs 4,500m² food wholesaler building in Rotterdam

A very large fire broke out overnight from Friday to Saturday at a 4,500-square-metre building on Sydneystraat in Rotterdam. The building houses a wholesaler of foods from the Middle East, Turkey and North Africa and is largely on fire. Nobody was injured.

The fire brigade reported flames coming out of the building at around 02:15 and was still fighting the fire at 04:30. The Rotterdam-Rijnmond safety region said crews are on site with a lot of equipment and personnel and are tackling the fire from several sides.

The business park is near Rotterdam The Hague Airport. The fire brigade is trying to stop the fire spreading to other buildings there. It says there is a lot of smoke, but the wind disperses it quickly.
