Storm Boelo brings code yellow wind warning to the north
The KNMI has issued a code yellow warning for Saturday evening in four northern areas as a second storm follows Austen, with gusts of around 100 km/h on the coast.
Storm Boelo arrives late on Saturday afternoon, a day after storm Austen crossed the Netherlands. The KNMI, the national weather institute, has issued code yellow from Saturday evening for Noord-Holland, the Wadden Islands, Groningen and Friesland because of strong wind gusts.
Heavy gusts of about 100 km/h are expected in coastal areas, locally perhaps higher. Wind force 7 to 8 is forecast along the coast, in the Wadden region and on the IJsselmeer. Inland, wind force 5 to 6 is expected. In the evening, more than 10 mm of rain is expected in many places.
Weeronline forecasts a few more showers on Saturday morning, which then move north-east as the sun breaks through from the south-west. The wind eases only temporarily in the afternoon, with temperatures of 12 or 13 degrees, before a new band of rain arrives from the south-west. Boelo is expected to hit the north of the country hardest.
Austen is still leaving traces. Fire brigades have been called out in several places for storm damage. Rijkswaterstaat, the national roads agency, reports branches and trees on or beside the road in several places. Along the A65 near Tilburg, a tree hangs over the hard shoulder. The agency warns drivers to be alert.

code geel
Code yellow is the lowest of the three warning levels that the KNMI, the Dutch national weather institute, issues for severe weather (the others are code orange and code red). It means the weather may cause some disruption, so people should stay alert and follow updates. KNMI warnings are issued for specific regions and time periods.
