Storm Austen shuts funfairs in Breda and Bergen op Zoom
Both Brabant funfairs (kermissen) shut with immediate effect on Friday afternoon because of strong gusts from storm Austen.
The funfairs in Breda and Bergen op Zoom closed with immediate effect on Friday afternoon. Gusts from storm Austen made it unsafe to stay open. Breda's funfair team said the back of an attraction blew over in an earlier storm and it does not want to go through that again.
The Breda funfair team, part of the municipality, decided shortly before 5pm to close, after talks with the police. A spokesperson said several tall attractions made the risk too great.
The KNMI, the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute, has issued code yellow for Brabant, the weather warning for the province.
Sunday is the last day of the funfair in both cities.

Code yellow is the lowest of the three weather warning levels issued by the KNMI, the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute; the other two are orange and red. It means the weather may cause some nuisance or disruption, so people are advised to stay alert and check the forecast. Warnings are issued for a specific region, such as a province, and the level rises when the expected impact becomes more serious.
