Two car break-in suspects arrested at De Meern car park
Police boxed in the suspects' car on Thursday evening, after a run of break-ins at a car park near the A12 in De Meern.
Police arrested two suspected car burglars, aged 34 and 36, on Thursday evening at a car park in De Meern, near a Burger King and a Starbucks. Officers boxed in the men's car, and it has been seized.
Four cars were broken into at the car park between 20 and 28 October, police said. Between October 2025 and February 2026, twenty car break-ins were registered there. Thieves mostly took bags containing laptops, phones and accessories, usually between 18:00 and 20:00.
Because of the break-ins, police had patrolled the area both visibly and discreetly. That targeted effort led to Thursday's arrests, police said.
Police say car break-ins are often over within minutes, even when drivers stop only briefly for a meal or a break. They urge drivers to take laptops, phones, bags and other valuables with them, and not to leave them out of sight, for example in the boot, because a thief can see someone stowing items there.
Sadly, we see that even on short visits, car owners leave valuables such as laptops and mobile phones in the car.Police spokesperson
