Thieves break into Middenmeer fire station

Police are investigating a Monday morning break-in at the fire station in Middenmeer, and say fire stations elsewhere in the Netherlands have also been hit recently.

Hoornseweg, Middenmeer · Map: Kadaster

Police received a report of a break-in at the fire station in Middenmeer at around 08:35 on Monday morning. The roller door was damaged and goods were taken, police say.

Police say fire stations in other parts of the Netherlands have also been broken into recently, and life-saving equipment was stolen. According to police, firefighters use that equipment to free victims after road accidents and to get into buildings in emergencies such as fires. Police say such thefts have a big impact on the help firefighters can give, and so on public safety.

Officers started an investigation straight after the report. They have carried out a door-to-door inquiry in the neighbourhood and are looking at camera footage from the area.

Police are asking anyone who saw or heard something before, during or after the break-in, or who has camera footage from the area, to come forward. They can use the police tip form or call 0900-8844. Anonymous tips go to Meld Misdaad Anoniem on 0800-7000.
