Minority cabinet seeks opposition backing for budgets and tax plan
The D66, VVD and CDA cabinet continues talks with opposition parties to win support for its budgets and tax plan (belastingplan).
The minority cabinet of D66, VVD and CDA is seeking support from opposition parties, from PRO to the SGP, for the budgets and the tax plan.
The Tweede Kamer votes on the tax plan on 12 November. The seven parties in the talks are PRO, JA21, ChristenUnie, BBB, SGP, 50Plus and Volt.
The parties have demands that clash with the coalition's. Some carry a large price tag or cut across other policy areas.
What do the parties want in return for support?
- BBB
- Wants all nitrogen (stikstof) plans off the table.
- JA21
- Makes it a condition that the compulsory rules in the asylum dispersal law (asielspreidingswet) are scrapped.
- SGP
- Wants to restrict abortion rights.
- D66, VVD and CDA
- Do not want to change the current abortion rules, want the nitrogen plans to continue and say the spreidingswet cannot be abolished.
Broad backing matters in the Eerste Kamer, the Senate, where the three coalition parties are even further short of a majority than in the Tweede Kamer.

BBB (BoerBurgerBeweging)
BBB is a Dutch political party, named BoerBurgerBeweging (Farmer-Citizen Movement), focused on agriculture, rural areas and the interests of farmers. It holds seats in the Tweede Kamer, the House of Representatives, which votes on laws, budgets and tax plans. Its votes can matter in the Dutch parliament, so governing parties sometimes seek its support for major decisions.
