KPN fibre now reaches 6 million Dutch homes

Telecoms group KPN says it put more emphasis on connecting homes to fibre in the third quarter, while mobile subscriptions drove its customer growth and broadband subscribers fell by 7,000.

KPN fibre has been available to 6 million households in the Netherlands since the last quarter, the company says. KPN says it expanded its coverage together with Glaspoort.

Nearly 5 million of those homes have the fibre run into the meter box. KPN says demand for fibre is growing, partly because of working from home, and that it put more emphasis on connecting homes in July, August and September.

Customer growth came mainly from mobile. KPN added 24,000 mobile subscribers in the consumer market, and 42,000 more business customers took a mobile subscription.

The number of broadband subscribers fell by 7,000. The decline in broadband subscribers has slowed since this quarter, KPN says.

Quarterly revenue rose to €1.5bn and net profit rose 5% to €249m, according to the company's press release.
