Go Ahead Eagles beat Excelsior by 1 goal to nil in the Eredivisie, the top Dutch football league, on Saturday evening at Woudestein, the home ground of Excelsior. Søren Tengstedt scored the only goal of the match in minute 72. Mathis Suray provided the pass that set up the goal.

The goal was Tengstedt's 9th Eredivisie goal of the season. That makes him the league's sole top scorer for now.

Excelsior had a goal by David Garden disallowed for offside. That goal would have levelled the score. The home side were left without a point.

The defeat was the fifth in a row in the league for Excelsior, a run of 5 matches without a win. A week earlier they lost to FC Twente.

Fireworks were set off outside the stadium during the match, about an hour in.
