Storm Boelo becomes first official storm of the autumn
Wind on Vlieland averaged force 9 for an hour, and the province of Groningen is under a code yellow weather warning until Monday morning.
Storm Boelo was declared the first official storm of the autumn after the wind on Vlieland averaged force 9 between 11:00 and 12:00.
The KNMI has issued code yellow for the province of Groningen until 06:00 on Monday, by which time the storm is expected to have left the country.
Meteorologists call a storm official when the average wind speed at one or more KNMI stations reaches force 9 over a full hour. Storm Austen, which swept across the country earlier this week, did not count: wind force stayed at 8.
The name Boelo, from East Groningen, was on the list of storm names for 2026-2027. The next storm will be called Chloe.
