Man arrested for flying drone over Eemshaven
Police took control of the drone remotely on 20 October, seized it and arrested its pilot, the mayor of Het Hogeland told a council meeting.
Police have arrested a man for flying a drone over the Eemshaven, mayor Hans Broekhuizen of the municipality of Het Hogeland told a council meeting. The arrest was made on Tuesday 20 October.
Police first took over the drone's controls and took the drone into their possession, the mayor said. Only then could they arrest the man flying it.
Police say the man was questioned and has since been released. He remains a suspect in the investigation, and the drone has been seized and is being examined further.
For now, police do not assume this drone is linked to other drones in the province, such as those at the chemical park in Farmsum and the solar park in Scheemda. Police say no arrests have been made over those sightings.

Het Hogeland
Het Hogeland is a municipality (gemeente) in the north of the province of Groningen, in the Netherlands. Its mayor leads the municipal executive and chairs the council, and the municipality is responsible for local matters such as public order, permits and local services in its area. It includes the Eemshaven port area, so local decisions on the port and its surroundings fall under this municipality.
