Police arrested eight people on Tuesday 3 November in a drugs investigation led by the Interventieteam HIT. Officers searched eight homes in Groningen and one in Assen.

The suspects are seven men and one woman, aged 33 to 49. All come from Groningen. Police found 3.6 kilos of hard drugs, including cocaine and heroin.

Police also seized more than €40,000 in cash.

All suspects appear before the examining magistrate (rechter-commissaris) on Friday 6 November.

Police say drug crime affects the safety and liveability of neighbourhoods, and that criminal networks often exploit vulnerable people. Financial problems, addiction and dependence can be used to draw people into crime, police say. They say the HIT team combines local knowledge with specialist expertise to tackle such networks.
