Belgian police arrested a 49-year-old man from Belgium on Thursday evening on suspicion of involvement in the death of a 54-year-old woman from Tilburg, the Dutch police said on Friday.

The arrest was made at the request of the Dutch authorities, who investigated together with Belgian police. The man's exact role in the case is still being investigated.

Police also searched two homes in Belgium and seized, among other things, two vehicles. The Netherlands has submitted a request to the Belgian authorities to have the man handed over.

The woman was found dead in a home in Tilburg on Sunday. During the afternoon, police suspected she may have died as a result of a crime. On Tuesday they confirmed it.

After the discovery, a large part of the street was cordoned off. Several cars carrying detectives and a crime-scene unit (Plaats Delict-unit) came to the home.

Police have not made public whether the man and the woman knew each other.
