Moerdijk residents ask Jetten to take charge of energy plans

Residents, political parties and organisations in Moerdijk say different departments keep changing the plans for new energy projects in their area. They want the prime minister to settle them.

Residents, political parties and organisations from Moerdijk are calling on Prime Minister Rob Jetten to take charge of the planning for new energy projects in the area. They make the request in an open letter.

They want a single integrated plan for the area, after which central government would stay out for at least two generations. They believe that if Jetten takes charge as prime minister, he can get the ministries involved around the table and bring them to a single decision.

The letter says: "As long as each ministry follows its own line, one scenario follows another. Every new minister brings a new plan, and our residents start again in uncertainty each time."

State secretary Jo-Annes de Bat (Climate and Green Growth) announced this spring that he wants to investigate whether the plans can be scaled down. As a result, the cabinet and the province of Brabant postponed a planned decision on the Powerport project.
