Barn fire in Wijdenes under control after heavy smoke
The regional safety authority says a barn in Wijdenes was on fire this afternoon and that the response was scaled up significantly because of heavy smoke.
The first report of the fire reached the emergency control room around 13:45. A spokesperson for the veiligheidsregio, the regional safety authority, said a barn in Wijdenes was on fire and a lot of smoke was being released. “That is why the response was scaled up significantly,” the spokesperson said.
The safety region said the “fire under control” signal (brand meester) was given around 14:30. The fire is not yet fully out: “The fire service is checking the various rooms in the barn and carrying out the final extinguishing work where necessary.”

veiligheidsregio
The veiligheidsregio is the regional safety authority in the Netherlands, a partnership of municipalities that jointly organises fire fighting, emergency medical care and disaster management for its area. It coordinates how emergency services respond to incidents such as fires, floods and large accidents, and it is the body that scales up a response when an incident is large. The country is divided into several such regions, each covering a group of municipalities.
