Fire in car park under Amsterdam's Olympic Stadium brought under control
A fire in the crawl space under the Olympic Stadium produced heavy smoke on Thursday evening, and the emergency services urged people bothered by it to close their windows and doors.
A fire in the car park under the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam was brought under control around 00:38 on Friday, about six hours after it broke out. It started around 18:30 on Thursday in the car park's crawl space and produced a lot of smoke.
The safety region urged residents nearby to close windows and doors if the smoke bothered them.
Because the source of the fire was hard to reach, it took a long time to extinguish. Firefighters used foam, among other things. A safety region spokesperson said the fire had also spread to the cavity wall.
During the night the emergency services reported that they were scaling down their response and leaving in stages.
