Jetten refuses to act on MPs' motions on king's budget

Prime Minister Rob Jetten says he will instead present a note on a "future-proof royal house" early next year, despite several motions adopted by the Tweede Kamer.

Prime Minister Rob Jetten (D66) refuses to carry out motions on the king's budget that the Tweede Kamer has adopted. He will instead present a note on a "future-proof royal house" (toekomstbestendig koningshuis) early next year. This emerged on Wednesday evening during the annual debate on the royal house.

In recent years parliament adopted several motions calling on successive cabinets to make members of the royal house who receive an allowance pay tax on it. MPs also want more transparency in expense allowances, insight into assets and a moderated annual indexation.
