526km of jams as Friday rush hour hits Dutch roads
Friday afternoon traffic on Dutch roads was busier than normal, with Rijkswaterstaat reporting 526km of jams on national roads around 16:00.
Rijkswaterstaat, the national roads agency, calls Friday's afternoon rush hour a heavy one ("forse spits"). A spokeswoman says it is the third busiest of the year. Traffic is busier than normal.
Around 16:00, Rijkswaterstaat reported 526km of jams on the national roads. Bad weather is a major factor.
Only two Friday rush hours this year had more jams: 25 September, with 547km, and 22 May, the worst of the year, with 617km.
In Gelderland, traffic was relatively light. Around 18:00 the longest delay was on the A2 towards Den Bosch, where 13km of jams between Culemborg and Zaltbommel added about 36 minutes to journeys.
