Police arrested four people after a car hit a man in the Kardinaal de Jongstraat in Valkenswaard on Monday evening. Officers were sent around 21.15 to a reported fight. The report said a car had driven into one or more people and shots may have been fired.

A 34-year-old man from Poland was hit by the car and injured in the leg. Police said he was examined in hospital and was not seriously hurt.

The car was gone when officers arrived, but witnesses had given a description and the number plate. Police soon traced it on the Heikant in Waalre with three occupants: a man and a woman, both 24, and a man aged 44, all from Eindhoven. They were arrested and are in custody.

According to police, the occupants probably fought on the street with one or two other men, including the Polish man. The 24-year-old man from Eindhoven was assaulted and injured. The three then got into the car and drove off, hitting the Polish man.

The car's rear window was smashed. Police say a firearm did not cause the damage and the window was probably smashed in. So far, officers have found no firearm or traces of its use.

The Polish man was also arrested, because police say he may have been involved in the assault and the damage to the car. Detectives are investigating exactly what happened and why. Police are asking witnesses and anyone with camera footage to come forward.
