Frost had already appeared in parts of the country earlier. Local frost was recorded in the south overnight from Thursday into Friday, in places in Noord-Brabant, Limburg and parts of Zeeland. The first frost of the autumn therefore reached the south before it reached De Bilt.
The timing is not unusual. On average, the temperature in De Bilt first falls below zero on 8 November, so this first frost has come at a usual time.
Last year, the first frost in De Bilt came on the sixteenth of November, later than the average date. Before Saturday, the last time it froze in De Bilt was on the twenty-ninth of March.
