Finance minister expects broad support for new savings tax funding

Finance Minister Eelco Heinen (VVD) says his new funding for the cabinet's planned changes to box 3, the tax on savings and investments, can count on "broad support".

Heinen said so after talks about the tax plan with the ChristenUnie. He expects his new funding for the cabinet's changes to box 3 to get "broad support".

The bill for a tax on the actual return on savings and investments is now before the Eerste Kamer, the Senate. The VVD wants to amend it so that share price gains are taxed only when the shares are sold, as the original proposal already does for real estate and shares in start-ups.
