North Sea Port cargo rises 1.6% in third quarter
North Sea Port, the operator of the ports of Vlissingen, Terneuzen and Ghent, says companies there moved 17.2 million tonnes of seaborne cargo in the third quarter, its strongest quarter in four years.
Companies in the ports of Vlissingen, Terneuzen and Ghent handled 17.2 million tonnes of seaborne cargo in the third quarter, North Sea Port reports. That is 1.6% more than in the same period a year earlier.
According to the port operator, it was the strongest quarter in four years. Liquid bulk cargo rose 8.5%.
North Sea Port says the quarter points to a positive trend towards the end of the year.
North Sea Port says the drought had a limited effect on seaborne throughput.
In August, chief executive Cas König said the persistent summer drought was forcing the company to reckon with more disruption.

North Sea Port
North Sea Port is a cross-border port area and cooperation between the seaports of Zeeland-West-Brabant in the Netherlands (Vlissingen-Terneuzen) and the port of Ghent in Belgium. It publishes regular cargo statistics for the companies operating in its ports, covering the seaborne goods handled across the combined area. Because it spans two countries, its figures are often used as an indicator of activity in the southwestern Netherlands and northern Belgium.
