Audi quarterly profit falls almost 90% to €95m

The carmaker's net profit fell to €95m from €718m a year earlier as sales of combustion-engine cars in China dropped sharply.

Audi, a subsidiary of the German Volkswagen group, saw its net profit fall by almost 90% in the third quarter of 2026, to €95m. In the same quarter a year earlier it was €718m. Sales of combustion-engine cars in China dropped sharply.

The result covers the whole Audi group, which also includes Bentley, Lamborghini and the motorcycle maker Ducati. Meanwhile, European buyers increasingly chose electric vehicles.

Financial director Jürgen Rittersberger said the figures clearly show that intervening at Audi is necessary and can no longer be postponed. "Our measures are paying off, but given the enormous competitive pressure we must expand them further," he said.

On Saturday, at an election rally in the state of Georgia, US president Donald Trump announced that Audi will build its first American plant there. The investment is about $4bn (€3.5bn) for a factory meant to produce 200,000 SUVs a year.

Audi chief executive Gernot Döllner appeared on stage next to Trump at the rally, shortly before the US midterm elections, and thanked him for his support.
