A traffic controller was severely beaten on the Industrieweg in Haarlem on Tuesday 3 November at around 15:00, police said. The assault followed a traffic dispute. The victim was taken to hospital with injuries.

A 29-year-old man from IJmuiden was arrested immediately afterwards on suspicion of aggravated assault (zware mishandeling). Further investigation showed that a second suspect, a 26-year-old man from Haarlem, also took part in the assault, police said. He was arrested later.

According to police, the suspects drove up in a white delivery van, got out and then attacked the traffic controller.

Police are investigating and are looking for witnesses. They want to hear from anyone who saw or heard something near the Industrieweg on Tuesday afternoon, and from anyone with footage of the white van or camera images from the area.
