Meta will not pull camera glasses despite Dutch outcry over 'peeping glasses'

Meta has no plans to withdraw its AI glasses with a built-in camera from the market, the head of its glasses division told Dutch journalists on Monday.

Meta does not plan to take its AI glasses with a camera off the market, despite the outcry in the Netherlands over the devices, which are also called "peeping glasses" (gluurbrillen). Alex Himel, head of Meta's glasses division, said so on Monday, speaking to Dutch journalists.

Himel said the commotion itself did not surprise him. He compared it to the reaction when the first smartphones with cameras appeared, which also caused an outcry.

He also questioned why the glasses are singled out. "People film with their phones too, don't they?" he said.
