Love is Blind Nederland's Jurriaan apologises for skin colour remark

Jurriaan apologised in the reunion episode of the Netflix dating show Love is Blind: Nederland, where it also emerged that he and Mika are no longer together.

Jurriaan, a participant in the Netflix series Love is Blind: Nederland, has apologised for a remark about skin colour that caused an online uproar. He did so in the reunion episode, after only one Instagram Story of his own in the meantime.

"I think what happened is terrible. And I want to offer my sincere apologies to the people I hurt with it," Jurriaan said. He also apologised to Mika, who received a lot of criticism because of his remark. "I found it quite hard that it happened like that. It had a big effect." He did not want to say more.

Mika told presenters Bas Smit and Nicolette van Dam she finds it sad how Jurriaan is portrayed online, because she does not experience him that way. She said his parents were "incredibly sweet" and always showed real interest in her background.

Mika said she understands that the remark was badly phrased. "I understand people's frustration, and I want to acknowledge that. But there is so much more context." She regrets that this one remark gets so much attention, as she looks back on the experience positively.

Later in the episode it became clear that the two have split. Mika preferred not to say too much about the reason: "We've already had a lot thrown at us and I don't want to add fuel to the fire." Jurriaan said they can look back on "a wonderful time and experience" and that he is "incredibly grateful" for it.
