Cyberattack disrupts DigiD and tax office logins on Friday
A DDoS attack left DigiD, the login used for Dutch government services, only partly reachable on Friday, and Logius is reporting it to the police.
A DDoS attack disrupted the online services of DigiD on Friday. DigiD and DigiD Machtigen, the version used to act on someone else's behalf, were only partly reachable. Logius, the part of the national government that runs the services, is filing a police report to find out who is behind the attack.
Logging in to the Belastingdienst, the tax office, goes through DigiD, so people had login problems there too. Thousands of people reported problems logging in on the outage site Allestoringen.nl.
A DDoS attack tries to disrupt a website by flooding it with a huge amount of internet traffic. Whether any user data was stolen is being investigated.
A Logius spokesperson said the attack caused problems for some users. Logius will examine the causes and consequences of the attack, "We will look at the causes and consequences of the attack, and learn from them," the spokesperson said.

DigiD
DigiD is the Dutch national online login system that lets people prove their identity when using government and some healthcare, tax and other public online services. Its companion service, DigiD Machtigen, lets a person authorise someone else to handle their government matters online on their behalf.
Logius
Logius is an executive organisation of the Dutch central government that builds and runs digital services for public bodies and citizens, including the DigiD login system. Because it operates these national online services, it is the party that handles and reports on disruptions to them.
