Sports clubs can claim up to €1m, down from €2.5m

The cabinet plans extra money for sports facilities and playgrounds, but is lowering the most a single club can claim under the BOSA building and maintenance scheme from €2.5m to €1m.

The cabinet plans to invest extra in sport and exercise, with €78m in 2027 for the Regeling Bouw en Onderhoud Sportaccommodaties (BOSA), the scheme for building and maintaining sports facilities. From 2028,, €51m will be available. Clubs can use it to maintain their facilities and buy sports equipment.

Why it matters

  • The most a single club can claim under BOSA will fall from €2.5m to €1m, so that more clubs have a fair chance of getting the money.
  • Municipalities will get support for housing plans for sports facilities: €4m in 2027, and €8m a year from 2028.
  • A new approach to help people with disabilities and people facing financial barriers to play sport will get €3m in 2027 and €4m a year from 2028.

Minister Sterk (Sport) said: “This cabinet is aiming for the healthiest generation ever. To make sport and exercise truly accessible to everyone in future, we are turning temporary arrangements into structural plans.” She said clubs are central to this, as “the beating heart of our sports landscape”.

The cabinet says many sports facilities need renovating, many young people do not exercise enough, and sport is not yet a given for people with a disability or a small budget.

From 2028,, a further €25m will be available to work out how investment in sports facilities can be financed sustainably in future. That is on top of €25m already set aside for this.

Outdoor play, including inclusive play areas, will get €1.5m in 2027 and €3m a year from 2028. Another €1m a year will go to innovation, knowledge and data to support suitable local sport provision.

A youth sport programme plan (Programmaplan Jeugdsport) has also been drawn up. It aims to help more trainers, coaches and supervisors give children and young people suitable guidance, and to support sports organisations and municipalities in offering more suitable provision.
