BIJ1 must repay €95,262 of 2024 public funding
Interior minister Pieter Heerma told parliament that the party BIJ1 must hand back €95,262 of its 2024 in public funding, after the original order to repay the whole advance was reduced on appeal.
BIJ1 will repay €95,261.90 of the advance funding it received for 2024, minister Heerma (Interior and Kingdom Relations) said in answers to parliamentary questions that parliament received on 27 October. The ministry had first set the funding at nil, which would have meant repaying the whole advance of €208,881.78.
BIJ1 received €261,102.22 in public funding for 2024 under the party funding act (Wfpp). On 28 January 2026 the funding was set at nil. BIJ1 objected, and on appeal the funding was set at €113,619.88.

The minister said that, on reconsideration, full recovery was judged disproportionate: BIJ1 was late but did in the end account for the funding it received. The secretary-general took the appeal decision on the minister's behalf.
BIJ1 submitted its 2024 accounts, with the required auditor's report, on 3 November 2025. The ministry found defects. The activity report of the party's scientific institute and the statement of income and spending are missing, and a postcode is missing from the debt schedule of the institute and the overseas arm. The overseas arm's financial report is unsigned and differs by €8,000 from the amounts in its activity report.
The accounts arrived a week after the last repair deadline, and four repair deadlines had already been given. The ministry therefore decided not to ask for further repairs.
