What this means for you

  • A fixed-tariff contract (contract met een vast tarief) keeps the price per kWh the same for a set period, for example 1 or 3 years. Cancelling early can cost a cancellation fee (opzegvergoeding).
  • After a fixed contract ends, it becomes a variable tariff (variabel tarief). The supplier must announce the new rates at least 30 days ahead.
  • With a variable tariff, the supplier may change the price, often at set moments such as every 3 months. It must give at least 1 month's notice, and cancelling costs no fee.
  • A dynamic tariff (dynamisch tarief) changes every quarter of an hour, hour or day with wholesale prices. A model contract (modelcontract) may include a feed-in charge for solar panels (terugleverkosten).
