Dozens of locations in a Dutch village were defaced with swastikas, and the municipality has gone to the police and begun cleaning up.
Dozens of locations in Nieuw-Lekkerland were defaced with swastikas drawn over Israeli flags. The graffiti was sprayed on street tiles and street furniture overnight. The municipality has filed a report with the police.
Mayor Theo Segers called the vandalism "very wrong" (zeer kwalijk).
The graffiti is being removed. It has been cleaned from 30 locations so far.
Not the first time
It is not the first time this year that swastikas have appeared in the village's public spaces. Earlier this year, street furniture and bus shelters were marked with swastikas in connection with the possible arrival of an asylum seekers' centre.
