Storm Boelo puts Texel harbour and Harlingen quays under water
Storm Boelo also forced the Hollandsche IJssel storm surge barrier shut for the first time this storm season, and a coastal road in Zeeland was closed overnight.
The harbour at Oudeschild on Texel was under water on Sunday evening. In Harlingen in Friesland the water rose so high that the quays flooded. The level reached almost 3 metres above NAP, where a normal high tide is around 1 metre.
Rijkswaterstaat closed the Hollandsche IJssel storm surge barrier at Krimpen aan den IJssel on Sunday evening to protect the land behind it. It is the first closure this storm season. The barrier was expected to reopen around 10:00 on Monday.
In Zeeland, several cars in Breskens harbour were partly under water overnight. The water authority Scheldestromen had expected the water to reach 3.40 metres above NAP around 01:30. The Panoramaweg at Breskens, a road outside the dyke that can flood at high water, was closed overnight as a precaution. Scheldestromen says it has reopened.
