SP submits written questions on uncompensated business losses from benefits scandal

SP MP Jimmy Dijk wants to know when all small and medium-sized businesses harmed by the benefits scandal (toeslagenschandaal) will be fully compensated.

SP MP Jimmy Dijk put written questions to the state secretary for Finance on 15 October about entrepreneurs hurt by the benefits scandal. He says they have still received no compensation for the business losses they suffered. The questions concern a business owner caught up in the scandal who was left with a €1.5m debt.

Dijk asks how the state secretary responds to the fact that entrepreneurs have not been compensated for business losses. He also asks why the damage to thousands of entrepreneurs received so little attention for so long in the debate on the scandal. And he asks when all affected small and medium-sized businesses (mkb) will be fully compensated for the financial losses they suffered unjustly.

The questions say the Landsadvocaat, the state's lawyer, has called the business losses caused in the scandal an 'ondernemingsrisico' (business risk) and an 'ongelukkig incident' (unfortunate incident) in court cases. Dijk asks what that says about the government's attitude towards its own citizens.

Dijk also asks how many entrepreneurs suffered business damage and how many went bankrupt because of the scandal, and why the choice was made not to compensate entrepreneurs. He asks what the state secretary will do to bring all unredacted and missing documents on the affected entrepreneurs to light as quickly as possible, and how the state will be made to recognise the link between fraud lists and bankruptcies.

He asks the state secretary to answer the questions one by one.
