No trains between Rotterdam and Delft on Saturday after arson at rail bridge
Trains between Rotterdam Centraal and Delft Campus are cancelled for the whole of Saturday after a fire was set at a bridge in Delfshaven, and the outage could last longer.
No trains are running between Rotterdam Centraal and Delft Campus on Saturday after a fire was set at the rail bridge over the Delfshavense Schie in Delfshaven, Rotterdam, network operator ProRail and NS said. The disruption began around 02:30.
The outage is expected to last until the end of service on Saturday. A ProRail spokesperson said: "I don't rule out that it could take longer."
Passengers can travel via Gouda. NS is running buses between Rotterdam Centraal and Delfshaven.
A contractor who went to investigate the fault saw that the door of a technical room had been cut open. Smouldering cables lay inside. A ProRail spokesperson said the fire was set there.
The fire brigade is at the bridge to put out the fire, and police are investigating the exact cause.
From Saturday 17 October, no trains will run for just over a week between Rotterdam Centraal and Gouda, because ProRail is renewing track at several locations.
