Jetten wants US-Russia diesel deal taken off the table

The Dutch prime minister says the Netherlands has already told the United States not to go ahead with its diesel deal with Russia.

Prime Minister Rob Jetten said last night in a debate in the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of parliament, that the diesel deal between the United States and Russia "must be taken off the table". The Netherlands does not want the deal to go ahead.

Jetten said the Netherlands has already made its position known to the United States. "We have made this known as well: don't do this," he told MPs.

The prime minister is due in Brussels later this week for an EU summit, where the deal will probably also be discussed.
