Jetten sure parliament will back changed tax plan
The prime minister says the cabinet can win over MPs for its tax plan and changes to box 3, ahead of a debate in the Tweede Kamer tomorrow.

Prime Minister Jetten says he is sure the cabinet can win the support of the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of parliament, for its tax plan (belastingplan). MPs debate the tax measures tomorrow.
"I'm convinced we can get the House over the line to back these plans," Jetten said. He spoke ahead of an extra cabinet (ministerraad) meeting on changes to the plan and to box 3, which the cabinet's leaders agreed late last night.
When that meeting ends, the plans go to the House for the debate.
Jetten pointed to many "constructive talks". He said he senses that opposition parties also feel the need to start 2027 with a good tax plan.
"Here in The Hague, we all share responsibility for getting good things done. That includes a good tax plan with many improvements for citizens and businesses," he said. He expects the plan to pass the Eerste Kamer, the Senate, as well.

Box 3
The part of Dutch income tax that taxes savings and investments. Tax is charged on an assumed return rather than the actual return; after the Supreme Court ruled from 2021 that this can breach property rights, the system has to be reformed.
Tweede Kamer
The House of Representatives, the lower and more powerful house of the Dutch parliament. Its 150 members are elected directly; it can amend bills and holds the cabinet to account.
Eerste Kamer
The Senate, the upper house of the Dutch parliament. It cannot amend bills but can approve or reject them after the Tweede Kamer has passed them. Its 75 members are elected by the members of the provincial councils.
