Clocks go back one hour as winter time starts
Winter time starts in the night from Saturday to Sunday, when the clocks go back one hour and people get an extra hour.
Winter time starts in the night from Saturday to Sunday. At 3.00 a.m. the clocks go back to 2.00 a.m., so the weekend lasts an hour longer. In spring that hour is given back.
Niels Kalkman of the animal welfare organisation Dierenbescherming wrote earlier: "They normally know full well when they can and cannot cross the road." Animals are looking around in surprise this weekend, he said, because people stay in bed an hour longer and so take to the road an hour later.
The local branch of the Party for the Animals in Apeldoorn said on Facebook that it takes animals a few weeks to get used to the new rhythm. "Sadly, many animals die in collisions in this period," it wrote.
