HICP (Europees geharmoniseerde consumentenprijsindex)
The harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) is the inflation measure the European Union uses to compare price changes across member states, calculated with the same method in each country. It is a different index from the Dutch national consumer price index (CPI), which CBS publishes separately, so the two can show different inflation rates for the same month. The European Central Bank uses the eurozone HICP to judge price stability, which is why news reports often quote both the Dutch and the eurozone figure.
