cassatie
Cassation is the final appeal in Dutch criminal and civil cases, lodged with the Supreme Court (Hoge Raad) against a ruling of an appeals court. The Supreme Court does not hear the facts of the case again; it only checks whether the law was applied correctly and the procedure was followed. If it finds an error, it can overturn the ruling and either send the case back to a lower court or decide it itself.
