The Netherlands, explained

aanmerkelijk belang

A substantial holding is a shareholding of at least 5% of a company's shares, held privately by a person, alone or together with a partner or relatives. Dividends and gains from such a holding fall under Box 2 of the Dutch income tax system, which taxes substantial holdings separately from savings and investments. It matters in Dutch wealth and tax statistics because owners of these holdings, often company founders or directors, are counted separately from people whose wealth sits mainly in a home or savings.
