The words you will hear
- Koopkracht
- Purchasing power: how much your income can buy after prices change. A drop of 0.1% means that, for the typical household, income grows slightly less than prices.
- Arbeidskorting
- The employment tax credit: a reduction of income tax for people in work, so that working pays more than not working.
- Eigen risico
- The mandatory deductible in Dutch basic health insurance: the amount adults pay themselves each year before the insurer pays most care costs. GP visits are exempt.
- CPB
- The Centraal Planbureau, the independent government agency that makes the official economic forecasts used for the budget.
