Rijswijk home closed for twelve months after drugs found

Mayors in Rijswijk and Capelle aan den IJssel have closed homes after police found drugs. The Rijswijk home will stay shut for twelve months.

Rijswijk mayor Huri Sahin ordered a home in the Ministerbuurt closed for twelve months on Wednesday. Police had found a kilo of hard drugs, cash and dealing equipment there. In Capelle aan den IJssel, the mayor also closed a home after police found drugs.

According to Sahin, the findings are a strong indication that the Rijswijk home was used for drug dealing. In his view, that seriously harmed public order, safety and the legal order. He said the closure is meant to end the property's role in the drug trade and restore calm and safety in the area.

This is not an innocent situation: behind the production and trade lies a criminal world that affects our society and neighbourhoods. We are acting firmly against it. That is why I am having this home closed.Huri Sahin, mayor of Rijswijk

"We do not want drug crime in our city, and certainly not from a home in a residential area," Sahin said.

In Capelle aan den IJssel, the police arrest team (Team Parate Eenheid) raided a home in the morning. Detectives found several suitcases full of narcotics, and in a cellar storage unit materials that can be used to make drugs. Everything was seized, along with several data carriers.

Police arrested the 43-year-old resident. He is still in custody and being questioned, and the investigation is continuing.
